An optimistic post-covid as De Ruiter hosts Open Days

KENYA- Smarting from the unprecedented turbulence brought about by Covid 19, De Ruiter East Africa held their open house days on 23rd and 24th September at their showhouse in Naivasha. Growers from various rose growing zones were present on the two days and for the better part of the week to sample and select from the vast De Ruiter assortment.

DREA's MD Rob Letcher shared with us that they were laying significant emphasis on their older well-known commercial varieties as a good number of growers were 'playing safe' in a somewhat difficult market. There were however a good number of new rose varieties, such as Zanta® and Daydreaming® that caught the eyes of visitors and were seen to be promising. The breeder continues to monitor the prevailing situation as they undertake selectios for their new codes. They continue to envisage good market perfomance from their big reds including Ever Red®, Rhodos®, Furiosa® and Born Free®.

De Ruiter's retail mix consisting of Tropical Amazone, Sweet Unique, Clarion, Almanza, Sonrisa and Calypso lines, are being fronted for their notable volumes in retail. gaining renewed interest for the increasing retail volumes. Traditionally strong in red varieties, DREA sees rewarding sales results of stable and well positioned varieties as Furiosa®, Rhodos®, Ever Red® and Born Free®. All in all, Rob and his team at De Ruiter are happy with market results thus far as they remain optimistic for the future.
