Bananas produced at the farm are sweeter than imported ones due to large daily temperature differences and abundant sunshine. In addition, the yield per tree has reached 50 kilograms, bearing abundant fruits.
The average banana crop is about 30 to 35 kilograms per tree.
The farm, called the Ohaeng Farm Training Institute, operates a 2,644-square-meter facility that houses 45 banana trees.
The training center is also growing papaya, another tropical fruit. It produced 9 tons last year, generating 40 million won (US$34,300) in sales.
Tropical fruits such as papaya have become popular among Southeast Asian immigrants living in South Korea, drawing attention as a new cash crop.
