140-year-old Royal Brinkman is The NL' 12th oldest family business

’s-Gravenzande – Royal Brinkman was founded in 1885 and will celebrate its 140th anniversary in 2025. This long history is remarkable for a family business. In terms of founding year, Royal Brinkman ranks 12th among the oldest family businesses in the Netherlands (according to the EW 2024 edition). A position to be truly proud of.

The EW Top 200 Family Businesses ranks the largest family businesses in the Netherlands based on revenue. The information for this ranking is sourced from the Chamber of Commerce, annual reports, and company websites. To qualify as a family business, the majority of control must rest with the family. Additionally, at least one family member must be involved in the management or supervision of the company, and at least a second generation must be active in the business.

Royal Brinkman more than meets these criteria, securing its well-deserved 12th place in the ranking.

Family Business

The family-owned company Royal Brinkman is currently led by a six-member executive board. CEO Ton van Mil has been at the helm since 2013 and has built a stable leadership team, to which Bas Brinkman was added in January 2023. Bas represents the fifth generation of the Brinkman family within the company.

Royal Brinkman’s 140th anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year, including a family day for all employees and special highlights at trade fairs and events in which the company participates.

Future

Ton van Mil has a positive outlook on the future of Royal Brinkman. “Labor, energy, and the environment are the biggest challenges for growers. We can only tackle these challenges in horticulture by working together. By thinking and acting differently today, we are collectively building a sustainable and future-proof horticultural sector.”
