Award-winning advice on ways to keep the quality in young plants

What steps do you take to ensure high quality in your young plant shipments? Marc Verdel (Head Grower at Battlefield Farms): It is important for us to truly understand stock management from our young plant suppliers and how it works because it's easy to get frustrated when you order cuttings and they are not available.

It's good to understand why and how long things take so we can plan better, and they can plan better. It also helps us make sure we get a better product on time.

Working closely with our supplier of young plants also gives us a better understanding of the steps they take to provide us with clean, virus-free cuttings. We talk to them about the size of the cuttings we need, how they should be packed and shipped, and what we can do to maintain that quality once they arrive.

There used to be quite a bit of difference from one supplier to another. Today, they all have very rigorous, strict protocols to deliver clean cuttings to the market.
