Bio-insecticide use for greenhouse strawberries
Added on 29 February 2020
XenTari® is the world's only biological insecticide containing a natural, potent strain (ABTS-1857) of the microorganism Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies aizawai (Bta). It is proven to provide exceptional control of key problem pests such as armyworms and diamondback moth larvae.
The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) in Canada recently announced the approval of minor use label expansion registrations for XenTari® WG Biological Insecticide for control of box tree moth on boxwood, for control of cabbage looper, corn earworm, and leafrollers on greenhouse strawberries and for control of tomato leafminer on fruiting vegetables.

The insecticide was already labeled for use on a wide variety of crops in Canada, including the control of Tuta absoluta for greenhouse tomatoes, peppers and eggplants.
These minor use projects were submitted by Ontario as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel. Box tree moth was also the subject of an emergency use approval in spring 2019 in response to the first outbreak of box tree moth in Canada.
