CEA industry makes its case on Capitol Hill

US- The discussion of how controlled-environment agriculture can help protect the nation's domestic food supply chain and infrastructure has made its way to Capitol Hill. In late July, U.S. House Agriculture Committee Chairman David Scott held a Full Committee hearing on the topic, with testimony from several industry leaders.

"In order to address 21st Century problems, we must explore innovative solutions," said Scott in announcing the hearing. "It has long been a priority of mine to reduce trade deficits on specialty crops and increase affordable access to healthy food for all Americans. It is my belief that this hearing will help lift up solutions to increase domestic production, provide job opportunities here at home, utilize technology to reduce environmental impacts, and ensure that our American food supply is as safe as possible."

Testimony included comments from the banking and technology sectors of the industry, as well as a grower: Kevin Safrance, Executive Vice Chairman of Mastronardi Produce.
