1st Dutch Horti mission to China in a long time

Joining forces for food safety and food security in China.

Finally, after more than 3 years of physical absence, the Dutch PIB China cluster ‘‘NL Protected Agri Alliance China’ is able to travel to China again. The occasion is the 25th HortiflorExpo IPM taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from April 13-15, 2023. The cluster will have a joint booth at the HortiflorExpo IPM and co-organize different side events this week. The cluster of companies, together with the Dutch government and knowledge institutions, promotes awareness of Dutch technology and know-how with a series of activities and programs. They aim to position the Dutch greenhouse horticulture sector in China as the cooperation partner for China in achieving sustainable and safe food production.

Knowledge exchange on the facility agriculture industry

Networking, matchmaking, and knowledge exchange are the main goals of this visit. Besides a business network reception, on the invitation of the Agricultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Wouter Verhey, the cluster joins a seminar entitled “Innovative Digital Agriculture Accelerate the Sustainable Agriculture Development”. The seminar, prepared by the Consulate, aims to demonstrate the sustainability of Dutch Horticulture, to build up confidence in using Dutch Greenhouses in China, and to emphasize the strength of the Netherlands in innovative protected agriculture. Another example of knowledge exchange is the roundtable on the facility agriculture industry, organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and supported by NL Protected Agriculture Alliance China.

Understand the market and seize the opportunities

The landscape of the facility agriculture industry in China is changing on a daily basis, it becomes increasingly important to understand the real market and seize the emerging opportunities. Gert Dral, cluster coordinator of the PIB China cluster explains ‘’The Dutch already realized successful projects in China, in which education and training are always important elements. By cooperating with the Chinese government at several levels and by providing customized integrated solutions, we are able to contribute to the increased demand for fresh, safe, sustainably grown food in China.’’

Participating organizations

The visit is organized by the Dutch Greenhouse Delta, Netherlands Enterprise Agency, Dutch Embassy, and the Consul-General in China.

The following Dutch Dutch organizations join the mission: BASF, Bayer de Ruiter, BOAL Group,  Grodan, HX Agriculture, Imagro, Inholland, Kenlog, KUBO, KuiperCompagnons, Lans Groep, Lentiz, Ridder, Svensson, and Viscon.
