North Korea engages in socialist competition to boost veggy production​

In an effort to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security, North Korea has initiated a socialist competition among its large-scale greenhouse farms: Kangdong Comprehensive Greenhouse Farm (completed in Pyongyang in 2024), Jungpyeong Greenhouse Farm (completed in North Hamgyong Province in 2019), and Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm (completed in South Hamgyong Province in 2022).

This competition aims to scientifically and efficiently manage operations, minimize production costs, and maximize yield per unit area, with the overarching goal of producing over 300 tons of greenhouse vegetables per hectare. The initiative seeks to consistently supply fresh vegetables to residents of Pyongyang and the Hamgyong provinces.​
