FlevoFlora is taking step to the future with new construction

Garden plant nursery FlevoFlora has opened a new cultivation and processing area of ??5,755 m˛ this year. Dirk Van Diepen of FlevoFlora: "As a company we saw good opportunities to grow with the cultivation of garden plants. Part of our greenhouse was outdated and no longer met our wishes for good cultivation. In order to be able to grow, we therefore wanted to demolish the outdated greenhouse and partially replace it with a new greenhouse and processing area."

To achieve this, Dirk was looking for a party that could both demolish and build. He eventually ended up with Mustang Demolition and Kerklaan Greenhouses. Dirk: "I had requested a demolition offer from Mustang and that is how I automatically came into contact with Kerklaan. Together with Rick van Buijtene and Hans Kerklaan, I visited a number of completed projects and confidence in the men from Mustang and Kerklaan grew."

Finally, in September 2020, the first demolition phase was started. In this phase, the first part of 10,000 m˛ was demolished. During phase 2 in January 2021, the second part of 4,500 m˛ was demolished.

Soon after the demolition work was completed, the construction of the new greenhouse and processing area started. A mix of used and new materials was chosen for the greenhouse. Dirk van Diepen: "The columns, gutter, bars and rods have been used. We opted for new for the deck (diffused glass Low Iron), the window mechanism and all rotating parts. Ultimately, the greenhouse received a green label. In addition to a new cultivation area, Kerklaan has also realized a new processing area. Dirk: "Ultimately, the processing area consists entirely of new materials. This was really custom work that had to be built in between the greenhouse and the existing shed." In this new processing area, space has also been made for an office. The remaining old barn has been refurbished and, like the new processing area, has been given a beautiful sandwich facade.

Flevo Flora remained in constant operation during the work of Mustang and Kerklaan. Dirk: "We were able to continue growing from demolition to completion. Thanks in part to a structured planning and good communication with Mustang and Kerklaan, we have been able to keep the nuisance to a minimum."

Ultimately, the entire project was completed in mid-June 2021. Dirk is also very pleased with the end result: "We have delivered a beautiful greenhouse. You cannot see here that used materials have been processed. The greenhouse in combination with the new processing area and the major refurbishment of the existing shed has given our company a beautiful and professional appearance. In addition, the whole has also become more efficient and functional."

Now that the project has been completed and the greenhouse is filled with garden plants, Flevo Flora is looking to the future. "The main reason for the renovation was to take a step forward with an eye to the future. With regard to our greenhouse and processing area, we can make good progress again. We have improved a lot not only in equipment, but also in climate control, energy, efficiency and logistics. We have a future-proof company again. Kerklaan Greenhouses has contributed a great deal to this." Close Dirk.
