GoodLeaf moves to sustainable BioPET packaging
Added on 11 December 2021
All GoodLeaf products are now expected to be packaged and sold in more sustainable BioPET clamshells.
BioPET packaging, supplied to GoodLeaf by British Columbia-based Good Natured Products, contains 33% post-consumer recycled plastic and 20% plant-based material. The new GoodLeaf packaging is recyclable, and there are no harmful BPAs or phthalates.
"Sustainability is an important part of our business at GoodLeaf," said Jacquie Needham, Accounts Manager with GoodLeaf Farms. "We strive to manage our indoor vertical farms to have a minimal impact on the environment. Moving to more sustainable packaging is another step in that journey."
Water use in GoodLeaf's vertical farm is 95% less than field farming, and the water that is used is cleaned and re-circulated. There are no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides used in GoodLeaf's indoor, controlled environment farms, meaning there is no hazardous runoff.
GoodLeaf was founded in Halifax in 2011 and currently has facilities in Guelph, with plans to build in Montreal and in Calgary.
