How this Canadian VF company is expanding globally

Vertical farming is a fast-growing segment of the agri-tech industry, and Affinor Growers Inc. is one such company leading the revolution for the indoor-controlled environment and outdoor greenhouse agriculture industry.

Headquartered in Vancouver, Affinor Growers produces strawberries and crops such as romaine lettuce, spinach and herbs and, recently, has added cannabis to its portfolio. The company's large commercial greenhouse facility is located just outside of Vancouver in Abbotsford, BC, putting it in close proximity to its target market.

In line with this, on November 29, Affinor Growers announced a commercialization agreement with Britespan Building System, a company based in Ontario, to engineer and build a new polycarbonate greenhouse co-designed by both Affinor and Britespan.

Britespan designs, engineers and manufactures all of its prefab buildings in house, and provide six different fabric building styles. Britespan, meanwhile, serves a wide range of industries including warehouse, waste and recycling, aviation, agriculture, events and hospitality, sports and watercraft and ports.

Affinor and Britespan to build polycarbonate greenhouse structure

Putting it simply, polycarbonates are beneficial to greenhouses due to its UV protection that protects produce from harsh weather.

Britespan is a company that designs, engineers and manufactures prefabricated buildings in Canada and on an international scale. Together with Affinor, the companies will design the "Atlantis" greenhouse by adding a polycarbonate material to the outside surface of Britespan's building formation, which intends to improve certain characteristics of commercial greenhouse systems.
