inVenti+ improves in-vitro plant cultivation

Germany, Lohne- Pöppelmann FAMAC presents laboratory vessel with an integrated air filter in a space-saving design.

Pöppelmann FAMAC, Pöppelmann TEKU and Lab Associates present inVenti+, a container for in vitro plant cultivation. The innovative laboratory vessel with integrated air filter, factory sterilisation and a design adapted to transportation ensures optimisation of cultivation conditions and logistics for plant propagation under laboratory conditions.

Best growing conditions

The inVenti+ container is made from transparent plastic (polypropylene) and is ideal for plant propagation and cultivation under laboratory conditions. The airtight system consists of a square plastic cup and a lid with an integrated filter for controlled, safe gas exchange. The filter, variable in texture, number and size, has a pore size of only 0.22 µm and protects the plant culture reliably against the ingress of microorganisms. This enables growers to precisely control the gas exchange of their plants and thus improve the growth rate and general quality of the plants. inVenti+ is manufactured at Pöppelmann FAMAC under clean room conditions and delivered sterile in secure film packaging. Therefore, gamma irradiation, which is usually used to sterilise such propagation cups, is not necessary - and prevents the associated yellowish discolouration of the plastic container, which can impair light transmission. Since Pöppelmann FAMAC manufactures all the components of inVenti+ under one roof and no further external process steps are required, this shortens the lead times for providing the vessels.

Space-saving design

The inVenti+ container is currently available in a standard height of 80 mm and will also be available in heights of 50, 90 and 120 mm in the future. Stacking knobs ensure that the in-vitro containers are held securely in place during storage and during transport. Due to its low weight compared to glass containers and its angular design with external dimensions of 9.6 cm wide x 14.6 cm long, the plant cultivation container is designed for optimal space utilisation, e.g. of standard cartons or boxes measuring 40 x 60 cm or 80 x 120 cm, and is adapted for shipping on Euro or IC pallets. inVenti+ is also ideally suited for air freight transport.

Bundled expertise, successful cooperation

The development of inVenti+ is a cooperation between the plastics specialist Pöppelmann and the Dutch company Lab Associates, which specialises in laboratory supplies for the micropropagation of plants. Pöppelmann FAMAC contributed its expertise in the development and production of technical functional parts and packaging for the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries as well as medical technology to the interdisciplinary project. In addition, the Pöppelmann TEKU® division, specialising in products for commercial horticulture, contributed to the development with its extensive know-how in all aspects of the green industry. "By bundling our competences, we have formed a powerful team and are proud of the good joint development work from which inVenti+ has emerged," adds Marco von Döllen, Sales Manager Packaging at Pöppelmann FAMAC. Jeroen Naus, Managing Director at Lab Associates, adds: "In exchanges with our customers, we recognised the great need for a safer, more efficient and more uniform growing container. To this end, we were looking for a partner whose understanding of quality matched ours. The Pöppelmann Group not only has decades of plastics expertise, but with its FAMAC and TEKU divisions has extensive know-how in the pharmaceutical and horticultural sectors, so we can well imagine working together on further projects."
