"More Dutch tech in promising countries"

More Dutch tech in promising countries

I'm Ece Polat, Editor of Hortibiz Daily News and I've met one of the oldest turnkey greenhouse project companies in Holland last month. Marc Broeren, Export Area Manager at Dalsem, answered Hortibiz Daily's questions at Growtech 2021. He's been very informative about the first trade fair experience after covid circumstances and also new technologies that Dalsem developed. Please check the complete interview we had as below.

HORTIBIZ DAILY: What's Dalsem's work field?

MARC BROEREN: Dalsem is an expert in building complete turnkey greenhouse projects worldwide. We've doing this for almost 90 years and we're one oof the oldest companies in the greenhouse industry in Holland.

HD: What are you displaying at Growtech 2021?

MB: Here, at Growtech, we want to show again that we're turnkey player, building complete greenhouse projects for mainly investors in Central Asia.

HD: What kind of innovations do you offer to your customers?

MB: We, as Dalsem, use the latest technology in high-tech greenhouse building. Our latest innovation is the X-Air Greenhouse technology. It's kind of the 6th generation greenhouse that we come up with. Very flexible greenhouse that can be used in different climate circumstances.

HD: In which way is Dalsem an international company?

MB: Dalsem decided to export more than 30 years ago. We have focused on not only building projects for foreign companies but also helping the investors to become successful by mainly offering them the management support, helping them to grow and understand how to be successful so they have return of investment from the first year.

HD: What are your expectations from Growtech?

MB: Growtech has turned into an international exhibiton. We had been building projects in Turkey in many different regions but that was a long time ago. Now, the economical situation in Turkey doesn't help but this fair is mainly focusing Eurasia so we see a lot of companies from surrounding countries like Azerbaijan, Iran. That's why we remained in this booth, in this hall. Because we want to meet them as well. We know that they're here, people from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan. Customers we already knew are also here. That's why we keep coming Antalya. We have built in different countries and we're targeting different markets now. We came back to see also the old faces in Turkey but the main focus is on the countries where we are building now.

HD: When you consider the next 5 years, what do you expect in the horticultural industry?

MB: If you look at the export market, most of the countries are looking for self-sustainability. They want to support themselves. They don't want to depend on importing goods from other countries anymore. You see on the political field, things are changing and they don't want to be dependent anymore. They want to take care of their own. And that's where we see the opportunities in the Middle East. The countries where there is no horticulture now are developing so there is potential there!

HD: Are you satisfied with your attendance to Growtech trade fair as Dalsem?

MB: After covid situation, I believe a lot of fairs in the world are not taking place. Growtech was the one did happened. That's good because everybody is here again. Almost nobody cancelled. It didn't become any smaller. So as you can see, everybody wants to get started again! That's another reason to be here.

HD: Do you have a message for the readers of Hortibiz Daily News?

MB: I hope that horticulture industry stays healthy and that we all continue looking abroad for new markets and develop more Dutch technology in promising countries.
