Hortibiz Daily: What's Timfog's working field?
Can Külekçio?lu: Timfog is an engineering company specializing greenhouse climatization projects.
HD: What are you displaying at Growtech 2021?
CK: We're introducing our new products that we're producing. The greenhouse recirculation fan that we have developed after two years of tunnel testing. We're introducing this new recirculation fan that is consuming 35% less electric. This new fan can push the same amount of air 7m further while consuming 35% less energy. It means you can use less fans in tunnel compared to the old fans.
HD: What kind of innovations do you offer to your customers?
CK: Timfog is and engineering company and Timfog brand is synonymous with innovation. Since the company founded in 2002, as the name itself says Timfog, is the first company in Tukey that started producing high pressure fogging. Since then, Timfog is the first company that introduced carbon dioxide injection into the greenhouses in collaboration with our Dutch partners of course. From this point, we moved our focus to the greenhouse cannabis cultivation climatization. We have very successful projects applied in three continents as we speak. From then on, we moved forward and let's say introducing this recirculation fan and exhaust fan is following. So, as an engineering company we have a huge official R&D center. We like to innovate, we like to bring new solutions to the market.
HD: In which way is Timfog an international company?
CK: Timfog had always been an exporting company. Let's say, it was an organic growth. Because, we supply turnkey greenhouse companies. We're still very connected to Israel, one of our key markets. Also Spain in Europe. Cannabis is a big driver for Timfog and therefore Greece, Macedonia, Spain, Portugal are the hot areas for cannabis. For heating and fogging, we're seeing some attention towards Mexico. Also, we built a project in South Africa this year. So, where the customers are taking us, we're literally going there with them. So, regarding our own marketing efforts, Spain is big in Europe and in Middle-East Israel is big.
HD: What are your expectations from Growtech?
CK: Growtech is a very important platform for the greenhouse industry. We believe we'll see many more innovations at Growtech in the upcoming years. There is a big shift towards cultivation in greenhouses as there is a big fluctuation in climate unfortunately and this pushes regular field cultivation into greenhouse cultivation along with the scarcity of water. It's another issue. Meanwhile, after pandemic we saw accelerated growth in vertical farming as well. As we're a climatization company, we also in the vertical farming climatization. We're going to acquire two projects in 2022. We're going to build them in Istanbul. It's very exciting! We believe, in the next twenty-thirty years, agriculture is going to be a bigger industry and as I said we're an engineering company, we are applying the knowhow we have acquired from other industries and we're applying that knowhow to agriculture industry. This is our main driver for innovation. So we'd like to consider ourselves as experts in climatization as Timfog and there is a project that someone else can't solve, we're usually the address for the solution!
HD: When you consider the next 5 years, what do you expect in the horticultural industry?
CK: We see a big shift to indoor, greenhouse cultivation. Now everything can be grown indoor or in greenhouses for sure but still there is a ultimate drive for using less water, using more sustainable energy also the technologies like IoT or all the things comes with industry 4.0. Agriculture has been kind of overlooked in the past sixty-seventy years and I'm seeing a big shift for all the technologies getting together in agriculture. The population changes, the new generation people doesn't want to work in the fields but working in a vertical farm is fancy you know it's chick and you're working actually in the city, not in a far away land. So, we will see more and more vertical farms in the city in the next five years I think.
HD: Are you satisfied with your attendance to Growtech trade fair as Timfog?
CK: Yes, of course! We're getting lots of attention! We're looking forward to the next year's exhibition already.
HD: Do you have a message for the readers of Hortibiz Daily News?
CK: I hope they're safe and healthy! I hope they're having a good day when they're reading this. I'm sending my regards to them from Antalya Growtech trade fair!
