Rijk Zwaan at Fruit Logistica 2020

Rijk Zwaan has a clear long-term goal: a healthy future. To achieve maximum impact in the chain, we are a strong advocate of working in close collaboration with partners. The company has therefore chosen 'Stronger together' as the theme for its stand at Fruit Logistica 2020 - the major international fresh produce trade show which will take place from 5 to 7 February in Berlin.

Stronger together in retail excellence

Rijk Zwaan is launching a new snack brand called SN!BS at the Fruit Logistica. Snacking is currently one of the biggest drivers of growth. "With SN!BS, we hope to inspire retailers and traders all over the world to further develop the snack category. We have plenty of ideas about the product offering and also about packaging concepts, and we're keen to share them - both at the event itself and at our Retail Center in Berlin, which will of course be open during Fruit Logistica," states Jan Doldersum, Manager Chain & Retail. One concrete example of how intensive chain collaboration can drive retail success is 'Little & Fresh', which was introduced in August of this year. Rijk Zwaan developed the new concept in partnership with Dutch grocery chain Jumbo, The Greenery and a number of organic growers. The range of smaller-sized, organically grown vegetables sold loose has been embraced by households of maximum two people who are looking for ways to reduce their food waste. Rijk Zwaan is showcasing this and other Organics concepts at the trade fair in Berlin.

Stronger together for a healthy future

The spotlight will also be on proven successes, which the company is continuously fine-tuning and evolving in conjunction with its partners in pursuit of a healthy future. An example is Salanova® Teenleaf a spin-off from Salanova® - the one cut, ready lettuce range. Salanova Teenleaf® is an efficient solution for the fresh cut market: A range of whole leaf varieties, machine harvestable and suitable for both high density growing in soil as well as on high tech hydroponics. Another is the popular Sweet Palermo sweet pointed pepper, which is now sold in a range of different colours to consumers right around the world. More recently, Rijk Zwaan has launched a mini salad cabbage called Cabbisi™, which is a healthy and surprising innovation for the salad category. Visitors to the stand can also check out Rijk Zwaan's Asian cucumber for stir frying and the dark-green, sweet-tasting Greentense™green beans.

Stronger together in more successful innovations

Each of these concepts is an innovative response to a particular market trend or development, and Rijk Zwaan has worked together with partners in each innovation process. In the case of Knox™ a trait that reduces pinking in lettuce and hence food waste in the chain, Rijk Zwaan collaborated closely with processors and convenience companies, for example. The trait, which won the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award in 2017, has since been bred into dozens of lettuce varieties. Another award-winning innovation in the lettuce segment is Snack Lettuce©, which has been successfully introduced and rolled out in conjunction with Spanish, Portuguese and German partners in recent years. Rijk Zwaan will be happy to explain more to visitors during Fruit Logistica. That's how we share a healthy future.
