Self-sufficient production unit to transform the future of food!

COLOMBIA- Eat This, the international expanding platform that strives to bring food production closer to society is proud to present and support project Ahora, initiated by its Colombia contributor Saenz Fety. Inspired by the exhibition Countryside, the Future curated by Rem Koolhaas that featured in the Guggenheim Museum in New York until February 2021, Saenz Fety decided to bring innovation and vision to Colombia.

During the next three months, everyone interested in the sustainable production of healthy food can go and see this self-sufficient production unit which is located at Corferias and background to a number of upcoming fairs, including the Agro Expo from October 22 until November 1.

The unit is equipped with a climate, irrigation and LED lighting, which enable the ideal temperature, humidity and light conditions for the adequate development of plants. Technology providers and Eat This contributors Infinite Acres, Priva, Hortilux and PL Lighting and Metazet Formflex have been involved in construction of the unit.

By initiating project Ahora, Saenz Fety wants to stimulate people to discuss what the future of food looks like and how we can find an answer on how to feed the world without damaging the planet, through crops, fair trade and healthy nutrition that all lead to a positive supply chain.
The company has teamed up with local organizations and institutions such as Universidad de los Andes, Minagricultura, Holland House, Enel X, Embassy of the Netherlands and Corferias to also organize additional activities and events. Project Ahora seeks to transform the mindset regarding agriculture and the necessity, Now more than ever, to understand the concepts regarding responsible production and consumption, thus promoting care for young generations and preserving the land for future ones to come.

"We embrace possibilities, innovation and teaming up with designers, economists, politicians and creative thinkers to propose new alternatives for the future of food. But above all, we need to learn from nature. Nature perfected the processes long before we got involved. By having nature as our teacher, we can do what has always been possible: feed the entire world", assures Alejandro Sáenz, Corporate Relations Director at Sáenz Fety.

"Some might say that Colombia is not ready, and they might be right. However, life is for those who are passionate about what they do and most importantly, to be part of the solution. With Ahora, the status quo will be challenged, new ways of improving production will be explored, and thus promote a more resilient, healthy and long-lasting future for all."

"Within the food security policy of the Dutch Government, the issue of feeding cities with increasingly large size and population is one of the main objectives. Likewise, the sustainable and inclusive development of the horticultural sector in Colombia is a relevant issue for the Government. The Ahora project is proof that it is possible to achieve this goal, through the collaborative work of all those involved, in a field in which the Dutch technology and know-how has so much to contribute ", says Ernst Noorman, ambassador of the Netherlands in Colombia.

The time has come to make the change with Ahora! Alejandro Saenz is convinced that by introducing this model, it will be possible to establish a dialogue that has not been possible until now. "Once consumers start to see what an inspiring story this is, they will start to demand safe and innocuous food. We need to tell, show and share what we do to the entire world."About Sáenz Fety
