Three best blue compact Agapanthus

Three best blue compact Agapanthus

UK- The best way to add blue to a flowering garden is with agapanthus. But not just any agapanthus - you need one of the well-bred narrow leafed types like the Storm Agapanthus series. Well-bred plants are worth adding to your list of favourites because you can count on them to perform. Storm agapanthus grow fast, without fuss, and produce more flowers over a longer period of time than other agapanthus. And there are some really great blue options to choose from.

Blue Storm's Massed Show

When you want blue flowers as far as the eye can see, plant a mass of Agapanthus Blue Storm. This member of the Storm series is the softest blue and it produces the most flowers, up to 100 on mature plants growing in full sun. It also flowers over the longest period with a main flush in summer with added flowerings in spring and autumn.

Sea Storm's Truest Blue

There are times when a clear blue with punch is needed. Sea Storm produces flowers that hold their place strongly in a primary colour set of red, green, yellow and blue. Much loved by landscape designers it's the easiest way to add blue flowers to the mix, for the longest time possible, and with minimum maintenance and care.

Winter Storm's Moody Blue

Winter Storm has a few added tricks up its sleeve. Not only is it the darkest of blues… bordering on a sophisticated inky blue… but it is also deciduous. This is a massive asset where winters are tough as the plants neatly die back over the colder months ready to pop up again for a flower show in the warmer seasons.

But there's more…

In the UK, there is also a wonderful blue flowered variegated variety called Thunder Storm, available through Newey.   This is one of the most floriferous of the variegated agapanthus available.

The Verdict

Storm Agapanthus are well bred and compact, fast and easy to grow. There are more flowers on less foliage than traditional big leafed agapanthus varieties and there are three useful blue options available. Makes them ideal for border planting or patio pots.
