Vertical Roots featured on PBS' 'START UP' season 9

US- Charleston-based container hydroponic farm Vertical Roots has been featured on the ninth season of the docuseries, START UP, airing on PBS.

During the past two years, producer and host Gary Bredow spent a lot of time reflecting on the direction of the show and the types of stories he wanted to tell, and Vertical Roots was one of them.

"We wanted to find businesses that were doing things larger than themselves, despite the ongoing effects of the pandemic," said Bredow about Vertical Roots' feature. "And Vertical Roots' story was just so compelling — that everything is so high-tech and advanced and the plants can be taken care of, unaffected by the elements."

"Not only is what they're doing incredibly relevant to the agricultural issues happening around the country, but I think Vertical Roots is going to become increasingly important in the future," he added. "And today."

START UP highlights heartfelt and human-centered stories of businesses on a mission to do good in their communities. The show airs live on PBS, The World Channel and Create TV, and viewers can watch the Vertical Roots episode on-demand on PBS.org and Amazon Prime.

The episode is available online now on PBS's website.
