What if we didn't introduce new plants for 10 Years?

The main purpose of California Spring Trials is surely the chance to see new plants up close and in person. But while this is important to breeders and growers, does the average consumer really care that new plants come out every year? And, what would happen if the industry did not introduce any new plants for 10 years?
