Two months before the start of FRUIT LOGISTICA the leading trade show for the global fresh produce business is already presenting innovations from selected exhibitors online.

From 5 to 7 February 2025 the international fruit trade is meeting in Berlin. FRUIT LOGISTICA exhibitors will have solutions ready for key issues such as energy shortages, climate change and the lack of skilled labour. Trade visitors can already get an overview of the innovations that will be on show on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in 2025. With the FRUIT LOGISTICA Spotlights, the organisers are presenting more than 50 new machines, services, lighting and packaging solutions. The texts are available in German and English.

Growing importance of AI

Numerous innovations in sorting and ripening technology are proof that AI is also becoming increasingly important in the fruit trade. With Ripe Wise, Experience Fruit Quality and De Laat Koudetechniek are presenting a data and AI-driven solution that aims to make the ripening process for avocados, mangoes, bananas and other fruit varieties more sustainable and efficient. It checks whether the fruit is perfectly ripe, reduces the time and effort required for inspections, which in turn saves resources and makes processes more efficient.

Source Cultivate is an all-in-one AI cultivation solution that makes it easier and more efficient to forecast yields. Based on real-time measurements, it makes accurate predictions on plant growth and development. According to the manufacturer, they are 85 to 90 per cent accurate up to eight weeks in advance.

BIOMETiC Q Eye Stereo was developed specifically for fruit co-operatives. Using AI and stereoscopic imaging, co-operatives can quickly assess fruit size on arrival.

At Raytec Vision AI is used for sorting. With Opportunity, the company has developed an optical sorter for peeled tomatoes, potatoes and peeled boiled eggs. State-of-the-art AI algorithms in combination with high-resolution optical sensors achieve optimum precision. The system employs deep learning models that have been trained using vast data sets, enabling it to accurately identify and separate defective or unwanted items from the production line.

Innovative packaging

Recyclable packaging solutions are also a key topic at FRUIT LOGISTICA. New products such as the LifeBag from SMP are made from biodegradable, compostable materials which are recyclable and can extend the shelf life of food products.

The Smilesys® BK-70+ film from Carton Pack seals products with a film, thus saving the lid. It can be resealed multiple times and is suitable for healthy snacks such as blueberries.
