Experienced orchid grower adds new bromeliad line

Carpenteria, CA-based Westerlay Orchids is expanding its plant offerings with the introduction of a line of bromeliads. Native to tropical Central America, the bromeliad is an excellent house plant with a striking architectural beauty that will stand out in any room.

Westerlay is focused on new breeding lines, not yet widely available, that emphasize unexpected forms and colors that work as a focal point or in combination with other plants. The highly tolerant plant can handle temperature fluctuations and the occasional careless feeding and still thrive. Westerlay provides flowering and non-flowering options in a modern and earthy white ceramic pot.

Westerlay Orchids, a third-generation family-run company, is Southern California's largest commercial orchid grower with a core focus on reliability, sustainability, and providing trend-focused plants of the highest quality.

"The bromeliad is a natural addition to Westerlay; they are grown similarly to orchids' temperature, light, and watering conditions," says Westerlay Orchids president Toine Overgaag. "They are striking and can be a design feature in any room, all on their own. A perfect fit for the houseplant trend that has taken off in the last couple of years."

Westerlay's bromeliad options include:

  • 5-inch Premium Bromeliad: This green bromeliad is contemporary and sophisticated, placed in a classic white ceramic pot. The premium assortment includes a mix of flowering and non-flowering plants.
  • 5-inch Standard Bromeliad: The standard bromeliad assortment includes a mix of flowering guzmania varieties.
