For decades, organic farming has been promoted as a healthier, more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional agriculture.

But recent data show that the cost to consumers remains significantly higher, with organic fruits and vegetables costing an average of 52.6% more than conventional produce, according to a 2024–2025 analysis by LendingTree based on USDA pricing data.
