Greenhouse and workshop reopens under new ownership

The greenhouse, located at 324 Matthews Blvd., offers flowers vegetable plants, hanging baskets, custom baskets, succulent planters, herb gardens, gardening kits and all the potting and planting tools a gardener might need, especially with the rise in interest for growing personal gardens at home.

The business, which has been opened since before the Easter holiday, has implemented many procedures to keep their doors open during the pandemic, according to Soloman.

She added that her business has been able to stay open during the pandemic through the red phase because of her sale of fresh vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, herbs as well as peppers and zucchini.

"We were fortunate. We have required masks and our doors are always open so no one has to touch anything," Soloman said. "We are sanitizing and wiping things down constantly and we have the card reader where no one has to touch anything."

As gardening becomes a growing interest in the surrounding population, Soloman said that the gardening kits that her business sells, which includes different kinds of vegetable seeds, has been a "huge success."

"We see a lot of people doing gardens for the first time this year and just getting out and looking at the flowers and walking through," she said. "It's been very heartwarming for the support in general and meeting people and helping them with their flowers and gardens."

Soloman, alongside her family, purchased the greenhouse in October of 2019 and have already made leaps and bounds in making it their own by planning to expand the business to weekly hours, do-it-yourself plant and flowering workshops and seasonal decorations and harvests.

She hopes that with this expansion the greenhouse will be open a few days a week in the summer with fresh summertime vegetables and regular operations as well as the fall for pumpkins, mums and decorations and again during the winter holiday season with Christmas trees and wreaths.

In addition, she said that eventually if restrictions are lifted, in-person instructional workshops to make planter boxes with flowers, herbs or succulents as well as pumpkin painting, planter arrangements and wreath making in the holiday season.
