HortiFootprint Calculator will be presented during Cultivate '22
Added on 06 July 2022
The HortiFootprint Calculator, is an innovative software tool that measures the carbon footprint of horticultural production and provides the insights needed to develop and measure a successful sustainability strategy, with associated impact. The tool measures the carbon footprint of horticultural production based on inputs such as energy consumption, fertilizers and packaging materials. A scenario analysis feature makes it quick and easy to calculate the impact of changes made to these inputs in the future. There is an additional benefit for existing MPS-ABC participants; Approximately 70% of the required data for your footprint calculation is already captured through the MPS-ABC data entry process.
In 2021, several growers tested the tool, including Ammerlaan-Sosef from the Netherlands. This pot plant nursery considers sustainability very important within their business and tries to implement it in their daily operations. The HortiFootprint Calculator helps the company put the sustainability factor of their business into perspective by giving them insight into changes in the cultivation and production of their products. "For example, you can see in advance, if you change the plastic packaging to paper packaging, what impact that will have on the footprint. We invest in sustainable resources and we try to get the message across to consumers: this is sustainability," says Gertjan Sosef, co-owner of Ammerlaan-Sosef.
During GreenTech Amsterdam in June 2022, the HortiFootprint Calculator won second place in the GreenTech Innovation awards. Read more about the HortiFootprint Calculator on www.hortifootprintcalculator.com.
