API must add value: 'The market is not looking for gadgets'

The abbreviation API is increasingly common in horticulture. The term is not new, the technique has been around for a while. Because of economies of scale and ever-increasing data needs in horticulture, the Application Programming Interface comes in handy. "But it is not a goal in itself, just a technique," emphasizes Dirk Prins on behalf of Priva. "With just an API you are not per se helping a customer."

Being a Strategic Business Manager with 35 years of experience in horticulture, Dirk has witnessed significant changes in the industry. "Developments are always ongoing. The sector never stands still. Thanks to APIs, developments can go even faster. An API is the fastest and easiest way to process and share data."

Dirk describes it as a tool to "access a library of data". Priva itself already generates a lot of data, but in a horticultural world with more and more sensors and also other techniques, more and more data is available.
