On our way to the finals of the Urban Greenhouse Challenge #3, we now turn our attention to the technological feasibility of the student designs. For this, we enlisted the help of three horticulture sector leaders, who give the students hot tips to build their urban greenhouses efficiently and within budget, including a few current examples from their work.
Our panel of experts made up of Art van Rijn (Owner Artechno), Sandro van Kouteren (CEO Parus Europe) and Manuel Oomen (Hawthorne Gardening Company), emphasize the importance of a solid production system. With the current focus of student designs on form over function, the expert trio shares how the right technology and the right product can push the students a long way into the competition.
In the end, hosts Renee Snijders and Ed Smit from Eat This further raise the question on what should come first, social impact or the production facility, and remind the students to reach out to the coaches to find out the real world implications of their designs.
