Beekenkamp, Schoneveld partner on plant breeding and research

Two major Netherlands-based plant breeders are joining forces thanks to the recent announcement of Beekenkamp Plants acquiring a minority share in Schoneveld Breeding. While both companies will continue to operate independently in breeding, production, and sales, they see joint opportunities in exchanging knowledge of innovative breeding techniques and research.

For both family businesses, commitment, reliability, and innovation are the core values in their culture and processes, according to Peter van de Pol, owner of Schoneveld Breeding.

"This collaboration creates an exchange of knowledge that is of great added value for the entire supply chain," van de Pol says.

Schoneveld Breeding breeds and sells seeds worldwide and remains an independent supplier to all young plant growers. Beekenkamp Plants is a breeder of cutting raised products, and also produces young plants from seed and cutting.

Current collaborations and relationships continue to exist. For customers, nothing will change in access to genetics, technical, and sales support.

"This collaboration is primarily intended to increase the effectiveness of research and development," says Marc Driessen, Director of Beekenkamp Plants Ornamentals. "This step creates a beautiful hybrid."
