Change in management at JZ Flowers
Added on 05 March 2021
Tessa joined the family business 6 years ago to develop business in the USA and has taken on increasing responsibility since she returned to JZ Flowers in the UK. Particularly in the last year, a challenging one for many reasons, she has been far closer involved in all areas of the business.
Jelle will take on the role of Chairman at JZ Flowers from July 1st and is very much looking forward to this new - more strategic and advisory - role. JZ Flowers has an excellent and experienced Leadership Team and with Tessa at the helm the business expects to keep growing, both nationally and internationally.
As with so many businesses it all started very small; Jelle set out in the nineties as a Flying Dutchman selling flowers from the Dutch auction directly to florists across the UK ably assisted by his wife Astrid. Once they relocated to the UK permanently, they opened several wholesale operations in the greater Yorkshire area. When supermarkets started to show interest in flowers and plants as a specific category within the store, they decided to pivot the business and fully focus on this channel of the market. Growth was phenomenal and Jelle and Astrid soon realised that they needed a partner in their business with experience in supplying large retailers.
In 1997 they therefore started a joint venture with Dutch Flower Group (DFG), and a new entity was formed called JZ Flowers International. The business has grown significantly in the last 24 years and now has over 500 colleagues, across the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland, Turkey, and the USA.
We are proud of what we have collectively achieved with our customers, growers and colleagues and are very pleased to continue our business with the next generation of the Zwemstra family.
