Major orchid grower expands production

Westerlay Orchids, one of the nation's largest orchid growers, has leased a new 4-acre greenhouse in coastal Carpinteria, CA, that will enable the company to increase orchid production and explore exciting new varieties just in time for Mother's Day.

One of the Pacific Coast's foremost distributors, Westerlay Orchids is a third-generation Dutch horticultural enterprise committed to cultivating innovative, on-trend blooms designed with consumer care and environmental impact in mind. Now, the company's move to increase production initiates a planned expansion in national distribution from 3 million to 4 million plants by 2021.

Already Southern California's largest commercial grower of Phalaenopsis orchids, the 4-acre expansion will carry forward the company's mission to maintain the most sophisticated facilities on the West Coast boasting the highest possible third-party certification benchmarks.

"We are thrilled to grow our operation and presence in the Carpinteria community, which has supported and sustained us from the beginning" says third-generation Dutch cultivator and Westerlay Orchids President Toine Overgaag. With a firm commitment to community-building and a solid reputation for supporting local causes, the company looks forward to continuing its outreach measures while doubling the production of 2-inch 'Darling' Phaelanopsis. The expansion will also enable Westerlay to explore new plant varieties and continue to bring cutting-edge designs and features to consumers nationwide.
