With the growing demand for sustainable agriculture, zero waste, and a circular economy, Henofa B.V. is developing biodegradable growing mats for microgreens and other crops—an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic options in horticulture.

Henofa's research focuses on identifying biodegradable materials that meet strict regulations, as well as functional and industrial requirements.

  • European Regulations: Safety and Compostability
We will study how European food safety and composability regulations shape the development of agricultural materials. By analysing these rules and testing material prototypes, we aim to understand how products can meet strict standards while promoting sustainability.

  • Growing Mats and Natural Fibers
Our research will explore the properties of natural fibres, used in growing mats. We will test their water retention, biodegradability, and effectiveness in supporting plant growth. This will help us identify ways to enhance their use in agriculture. and to find the right materials for our product.

  • Production Methods
Our study will assess the production processes of growing mats, from raw material sourcing to final manufacturing. By evaluating and improving current techniques, we aim to identify resource-efficient and environmentally friendly methods that enhance production while minimizing environmental impact.

By exploring biodegradable materials, European regulations, and production methods, Henofa develops innovative, biodegradable solutions that contribute to a more sustainable economy.

Your contributions can help shape the future of this project. Henofa aims to deliver an innovative solution supporting a greener, more sustainable horticulture industry.
