Drawing attention to sustainable lily sector consolidation on June 3
Added on 02 April 2025

De Jong Lelies breeds and cultivates lily bulbs and prepares and exports them internationally as well. It specialises in everything to do with lilies. In honour of its 65-year jubilee, De Jong Lelies is hosting the opening of the Dutch Lily Days in its Andijk location. From June 3-6, the Dutch Lily Days offer visitors the perfect opportunity to view this year’s novelties and discuss possibilities concerning the developments and challenges the sector is facing.
Just like the entire agricultural sector, the lily sector is experiencing challenges and undergoing societal changes. Even on the political level, attention is being paid to the development and change in the industry, both national and international. During the opening of the Dutch Lily Days in 2025, the former chair of LTO, Sjaak van der Tak, will give a speech. Van der Tak was chair of the organisation from 2021 to 2024 and was involved as part of his role in the negotiations for the agricultural agreement that ultimately did not see the light of day.
Given this experience, Van der Tak knows better than anyone what the societal challenges are for the sector. During the opening he will pay specific attention to the lily sector and the fabulous steps that breeders, growers and exporters are already taking to build a sustainable future in the Netherlands and further afield.
International solidarity
During the Dutch Lily Days professional colleagues from around the world gather in the Netherlands to examine the developments and novelties and discuss them with the participating lily bulb exporters. Given the impact of previous years, thousands of visitors are expected to find their way to the 13 Dutch participants, where they can debate with these major international players and anticipate what will be influential in the coming period.
Spectacular creations
On June 3, our host De Jong Lelies will open its doors from 09:30 with its lilies already on display. Around 10:30 the official opening ceremony starts. In addition, the expert flower artist Paul Wijkmeijer will be available all day to create the most spectacular arrangements of the pollen-free Liber Lilies. Along with several brides, he shall use this unusual type of lily for the most amazing bridal bouquet creations.
