Ontario growers report $6M in tariff-induced losses in March

Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) has issued an urgent call for policy changes to support the country’s horticultural sector after Ontario’s greenhouse vegetable producers reported upwards of $6 million in tariff-induced losses over a three-day period in March.

In a recent report called ‘Extraordinary measures for unprecedented times: Supporting Canadian horticulture now and in the future,’ the FVGC called for a reform of Canada’s current Business Risk Management (BRM) programs for the perishable food sector, most notably, greenhouse vegetable producers, in light of today’s geopolitical climate and trade challenges.
