Innovative technologies transforming future food production

Dortmund – VertiFarm 2023: Unique next-level farming and new food systems show to present market leaders, trendsetters and pioneers in CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT AGRICULTURE (CEA).

VertiFarm, the international next-level farming and new food systems show being held between 26 and 28 September 2023, is set to be a major showcase event informing visitors about innovative ideas, technological advancements and products and services for tomorrow's sustainable food supplies. Focusing on controlled growth systems for vegetables, fruit, salads, herbs, alternative protein sources, microgreens and medicinal plants, the emphasis will also be on fish, algae and insect farming as well as the production of mushrooms and clean meat. Leading technology groups such as Bosch Rexroth AG and SIEMENS AG will be in attendance.

The world is changing rapidly. World population is expected to rise to around ten billion people in less than 30 years. In the here and now, crises around the world are disrupting food systems. Together with the consequences of climate change, increasing loss of biodiversity and advancing urbanisation, securing the world's food supplies is one of the most urgent challenges  of our time. Following last year's inaugural show, VertiFarm – the international trade show for next-level farming and new food systems – is returning to Messe Dortmund to present alternative cultivation and breeding methods as well as innovative ways to transform global food production. Between 26 and 28 September, decision-makers and stakeholders in the agriculture, food and pharmaceutical industries will obtain a wealth of expert input on everything to do with the food supplies of tomorrow. Exhibitors from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, North and South America, Asia and beyond will be in attendance, offering in-depth insights with the potential to revolutionise current food supply systems. VertiFarm is already able to introduce some of the high-quality exhibitors.

Leading technology groups powering the transformation to a sustainable farming economy
Bosch Rexroth AG with its technical automation expertise in the field of drive and control technology will be joining exhibitors for the first time. Innovative solutions and technologies surrounding plant management, environmental control systems, robotics and automation will also be on show from SIEMENS AG, and SEAWATER Cubes will also be contributing expertise in decentralised supplies of seafood, ensuring the availability of high-quality protein. PRIVA Horticulture BV will also be travelling in from the Netherlands. The innovative developer of state-of-the-art horticultural and greenhouse technology already sells its technical applications such as process computers and their peripherals in over 100 countries across the world. Also of great interest will be the proposition available from MechaTronix Europe NV, a leader in the field of innovative LED growth lamps. The technologies used for assimilation lighting in modern horticulture ensure maximum yields. Also from the field of efficient lighting technology for greenhouses and vertical farms will be start-up Crocus Labs, a tech pioneer for local food production founded as recently as 2020.

The following providers, and others, will also be represented again at the leading-edge buyer-meets-seller forum: vGreens Holding GmbH Deutschland will be explaining its technological innovations for premium fruit and crop production. Plant processing and sorting machines will be on show in Dortmund from Dutch company TTA BV. The platform expert for climatic conditions, Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS), will also be in attendance, and highly respected technology supplier Würth Elektronik will be back showing its key horticulture LED lighting components. ROKO Farming will be on hand, informing trade visitors succinctly on engineering, project management and general planning matters, and on the appropriate hardware and software for indoor farming projects.

Also participating again will be Bosman van Zaal BV, specialising in intelligent plant production systems and ventilation and water treatment systems in the food, floriculture and pharmaceutical sectors. An excursion to the Netherlands on 25 September – the day before VertiFarm gets underway – will pay a visit to the company and two other destinations. Included in the ticket price are guided tours of the three locations, lunchsnacks, the bus trip and a multi-day pass to VertiFarm.

Supporting programme to deliver top-class ideas, insights and inspiration 
Trade visitors will benefit from a three-day stage programme  featuring representatives from the agricultural industry, exhibitors and start-ups providing valuable information on the focus topics of 'Innovation & Technology, 'Ecological and economical balances and efficiencies' and 'Vertical farming as a solution for interdisciplinary stakeholders'.  

7th International Summit of the Association for Vertical Farming e.V.
As last year, the two-day summit of the show's conceptual sponsor, the Association for Vertical Farming, will be held once again as part of the show. This convention organised by the world's leading non-profit organisation in its field will see well-known scientists joining investors and representatives from industry and government on 26 and 27 September 2023 to discuss and inform audiences on the core subject areas of: 'Science & Research', 'Technology & Sustainability' and 'Food & Cities'.
