New system aiming at 200 kg/m2/year leafy greens yields

Kaunas — Freya Cultivation Systems, an agricultural technology startup with a focus on greenhouse profitability, is introducing the development of its new leafy greens cultivation platform.

- the AEROFRAME.

Freya’s new cultivation platform aims to rival NFT and hydroponic systems by doubling active cultivation area per same greenhouse space. The AEROFRAME doubles the cultivation area by utilizing three-dimensional structures (A-Frames) and mobile proprietary ultrasonic sprayers, which not only increase productivity but also deliver all the benefits of aeroponic irrigation, such as increased disease resistance and resource savings. What is more, according to the company’s estimations, increased plant density can drive down production costs due to diluted fixed costs such heating, cooling, property upkeep and others.

“We are very excited to introduce the AEROFRAME. After conducting early testing with our first prototype, we are due to deploy three new AEROFRAME platforms later in October. Our team is working to evaluate all suitable mobility systems to make sure the irrigators travel flawlessly” says Freya Cultivation Systems CEO Gediminas Kudirka.

Lukas Bartusevicius, Freya’s Chief Commercial Officer adds “our goal is to make greenhouses more profitable. The AEROFRAME development is very promising, and our testing indicates that we can achieve nearly 200 kg of baby greens per 1 square meter of greenhouse floor per year. The profitability metrics are also improved. I think that we will disrupt the market very soon, but we first look forward to validating our figures during pilot deployments in 2024. If you are a grower or a greenhouse developer, now is a great time to reach out to us”.

Freya Cultivation Systems plans to release the first version of the AEROFRAME in 2024, which will be available to retrofit existing infrastructure such as greenhouse benches and will be compatible with leafy greens. In late 2025 the company will introduce a fully automated platform with automated seeding, mobile plant boards, harvesting and washing.

The company is currently seeking to establish partnerships with growers, developers and distributors. “We are very proud of our partnership with KAPPA AgTech (www.kappaagtech.com). They have developed a replacement for growing media using their Silicone Substrate, which completely and permanently replaces the need for disposable, fibrous or porous media like peat and rockwool – plants respond very well and the harvest and cleaning steps are much faster. We will publish those test results very soon”.

"Our mission at Freya is to make greenhouse farming more profitable, and to reduce the barrier of up-front investment needed to service a market. The AEROFRAME is a culmination of years of research and development, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on greenhouse cultivation worldwide," said Gediminas Kudirka, CEO of Freya Cultivation Systems.

Freya Cultivation Systems encourages growers, operators, developers and other CEA companies to reach out and discuss potential pilot tests, distribution and co-development partnerships.
