Modiform launches new generation of ecoExpert transport trays

Leusden - Modiform ushers in an impactful era with the launch of the new generation of ecoExpert transport trays. The ecoExpert products were introduced eight years ago as an addition to Modiform’s existing range of recycled and recyclable plastic products. After an intensive development process, the ecoExpert products, made from 100% recycled cardboard, were launched. True to its nature, Modiform didn’t stop there. The company continued to innovate and improve. The new generation of ecoExpert trays has now been born! The transport trays de-stack more smoothly, even automatically, hold more trays per pallet, and feature a FUST code for settlement via the auction. Additionally, ecoExpert trays are PPWR-compliant, meaning they fully meet the new European packaging regulations.

PPWR-proof, easy automatic de-stacking, and more trays per pallet

There is strong demand for this new generation of ecoExpert transport trays. The first tray (NP408, 8x12/13/14 cm) was launched at the end of 2024 and immediately gained traction. As a result, multiple ecoExpert trays have been converted to the updated version to meet demand. The second model (NP315, 15x10.5 cm) is already with growers, and the third model (NP208, 8x10.5 cm) is on the way.

The recycling rates of paper and cardboard are around 90% in Western European countries. The fully biodegradable and recyclable cardboard transport trays are therefore a logical choice from a recycling perspective. The trays can be disposed of via paper and cardboard waste, and consumers can simply place them in their own paper waste bins. The ecoExpert trays are made from 100% recycled cardboard, thus closing the material loop.

Economically Beneficial and More Sustainable

In addition to the sustainability aspect, Modiform has taken into account the wishes of growers and producers in the development of this new generation of trays. Approximately twice as many trays fit on a pallet compared to the first generation of ecoExpert trays. This is not only economically beneficial for storage and transport but also advantageous for the carbon footprint. Where de-stacking the first generation trays was sometimes a challenge due to their rough underside, the new generation trays have a smoother surface. This makes them easier to de-stack manually and, thanks to the flatter structure, easier to automate. The natural wax also ensures good water resistance.

PPWR-proof

The new ecoExpert trays carry the FSC® certificate (FSC-C197426), the sustainability label for paper, cardboard, and wood. Additionally, the ecoExpert products have been approved by the independent Cyclos institute. This certificate confirms that the products are recyclable and contribute to a closed material loop. Furthermore, the new PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), launched last year, aims to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic products. Modiform also offers sustainable, reusable plastic transport trays. The new generation of ecoExpert trays is a good alternative to single-use products, and in light of European legislation, these trays will become increasingly important in the future. This is a significant step as growers, retailers, and consumers can rely on these packaging solutions to contribute to a more sustainable world.
